What is a Fire Risk Assessment?

A fire risk assessment is a process that involves assessing factors that could lead to a fire and how hazardous they are. The assessment will not only cover which factors are hazardous but how dangerous they are and what could happen if a fire broke out. Our fire risk assessors use both qualitative and quantitative fire risk assessment methods. Our consultants have many years of professional hands-on experience and include consultants who are members of the Institution of Fire Engineers and assessors who have completed the NEBOSH Fire Certificate.

The Fire Safety Order (FSO) applies to all non-domestic premises in England and Wales. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 came into effect in October 2006 replacing over 70 pieces of fire safety law. The order applies to common parts of blocks of flats and houses in multiple occupations (hmos). We provide professional assistance, guidance and support to ensure that employers and tenants meet their legal responsibilities under Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Fire Risk Assessment Checklist

There are a number of fire risk assessment requirements that need to be met and checks that need to be carried out to ensure you are compliant with current law. During the assessment of fire risk, our assessors will look at a number of things such as:

  • We will identify any potential fire hazards
  • Then we’ll identify the people at risk
  • We’ll then evaluate, remove or reduce any identified risks
  • Any findings will be recorded, a plan put in place and training provided
  • Your fire risk assessment should be reviewed and carried out regularly

For more information on our fire risk assessments or to arrange one, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. One of our team is always on hand to answer questions and deal with enquiries.

Fire Risk Assessment Frequency

There is no set frequency for how often you need to review your fire risk assessment, however, it is advisable to carry them out at least once a year to ensure a safe environment. Fire safety risk assessments should also be carried out if your current one if no longer valid or if you have brought new equipment into your business or made significant changes to infrastructure. We work with businesses regularly throughout the Middlesbrough area carrying out fire risk assessments.
